Storm Recap With Another Storm On The Horizon

Writer's picture: inglisbriinglisbri

The storm dropped a little more snow than I was expecting! It overachieved! Snow slowly and steadily added up during the day and evening Monday however it was the overnight that made the difference. Heavier than expected snow bands overnight increased snow totals across the region. The area woke up to a widespread 3+ inches of snow with some even breaking 5 inches.

Below is my forecast snowfall with real snow fall measurements courtesy of the NWS LWX

Overall the storm overachieved by an inch in most areas of Central Maryland. Otherwise the forecast worked out well.

Now to Look Ahead

Wednesday Morning - Cold and Windy

Temperatures will be in the teens or single digits. Will feel like the teens throughout the day due to gusty winds

Thursday stays cold with temperatures below freezing

Friday an upper level trough swings through bringing some weather ahead of it. Again the upper air energy does not line up exactly with energy at the surface. This means a weak low pressure system with low moisture resulting in light snow throughout the day Friday with light accumulations. Weekend will be cold!

GFS Model Simulation Thursday 8 PM to Friday 8 PM

This storm is similar to the one we just had. Appears to be weak and disorganized. The atmosphere likes to repeat itself so I will keep an eye on this as to whether it will strengthen like the recent storm.

Stay Warm out there!
