Friday Storm - Shaping up - Higher Expectations

Writer's picture: inglisbriinglisbri

The pieces of the storm are phasing up better than once expected. The upper level energy moving eastward across the mountains should time up perfectly with the area of low pressure forming along and off the coast. This should serve to enhance precipitation over the region and allow it to persist further into Friday afternoon. It is certain the general area will see a blanket 1-3 inches of snow. The degree to which the precipitation is enhanced will determine which areas will see the higher end of that range, 2-4 inches, with some getting more!

UPDATED TIMELINE FRIDAY EVENT

Midnight - 5 AM - Light snow slowly builds into the area, most evaporates into atmosphere and doesn't reach the ground

5 - 7 AM - Snow begins before sunrise and likely to lay on roads with cold temperatures in the past days

7 - 12 PM- Steady Snow throughout the morning (Likely to see 1-3 Inches by Noon in Caroll County)

12PM - 5 PM - Steady snow seems to hang on at least till the early afternoon, could extend past 5 PM (Make or Break point of the event, where and how long does the snow get enhanced?) (This could bring snow totals towards the 2-4 inch range)

5 PM - 9 PM - Widespread snow is dissipated and we are left with a few bands of snow in the evening.

Overall there seems to be many times throughout the day on Friday where the chance for accumulating snow could pose a threat to travel. As of now with snow beginning around or before sunrise and persisting throughout the day, it is reasonable for schools to close entirely for Frederick, Carroll, Baltimore, and Howard Counties.
