Monday 10:30 AM - Very light and dry snow begins to stick on some drier and colder portions of road. This proves the fact that cold temperatures can support stickage of very light snow. The snow is still too light to fully cover roads. I feel main roads are and will be fine since they are driven on. Portions of side roads could be slick if the light snow is falling. If snow rates pick up briefly - Be cautious. Once snow rates pick up this afternoon, main roads will become covered. Light snow looks to continue until later this afternoon when it will pick up slightly.
Monday 11:00 AM - Light snow ends
Monday 12:00 PM - Snow enhances south of Baltimore and moving northward
Monday 1:00 PM - Light Snow becomes more widespread over region with pockets of moderate snow - Now it is time to be cautious on the roads! Roads can easily become snow covered and fast
Monday 2:30 PM - The NWS has increased expectations for snow accumulations as some new model outputs support accumulations between 3-5 inches for Carroll and portions of surrounding counties. Personally, I am sticking with the general 1-3 with isolated 2-4. I would hesitate to make this call because only one model is hinting at the chance for more snow, especially on the back end of the storm Tuesday Morning. Other models have the storm exiting by morning on Tuesday where some have it sticking around till noon. I will also note that sleet or freezing rain may mix with snow early Tuesday morning limited to areas near and east of I-95. I will also remind folks that the heaviest most steady snow will fall between 7 PM Monday and 5 AM Tuesday with lighter snow outside those times.
Monday 5 PM - Getting into the light/moderate snow falling - small dry flakes - not accumulating as fast as big wet flakes would
Monday 8 PM - Still getting that steady light/moderate snow - small dry flakes. Overnight will get heavier and flakes will get bigger as layers of the atmosphere get warmer (still below freezing)
Monday 9:30 PM - Moderate Snow is settling in and widespread over the area - This is where most of the accumulation will fall - Expect another 2-3 inches by morning with scatted snow showers throughout the morning for an additional inch of snow. Mixed precipitation along 95 in the morning. Storm Total expected to exceed the 2-4 inch forecast for many areas.
Monday 10:30 PM - Winter Storm Warning placed by the NWS for the general central MD area - NWS forecasts 4-6 inches. Some heavier snow bands have formed across the area and will boosts snow totals in those areas!
Tuesday 8:30 AM - 5 inches measured in Westminster! Snow or mixed precipitation still falling in Baltimore County and portions of Carroll County. Showers of snow or mixed precipitation still to hang around until noon. Be careful! Quick bursts of snow can cover roads.
